William McCormick Obituary

William Lenwood “Mack” McCormick, Age 66 of Forest City, North Carolina died Monday, January 7, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City, NC.  Mack was born June 11, 1952 in Kinston, North Carolina and was son of the late  Lenwood “Mac” McCormick and Pettie Lou Byrd McCormick.

Mack began his newspaper career in 1975 when he joined the advertising department of the Herald-Sun.  A decade later, Mack began work with the Raleigh News and Observer holding Local, Regional, and National Advertising Manager positions during his long career.  Mack also served as President of the Mid Atlantic Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives.  Always willing to help others learn the craft of advertising sales, Mack served one semester as a visiting lecturer at the UNC School of Journalism where he taught retail advertising.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Forest City where he served as Deacon Chair, and as a Sunday School Teacher.  Mack had a passion for mission work, and served with the NC Baptist on Mission locally and internationally.  Most recently, he worked in Eastern NC on a mobile feeding unit designed to provide meals to people in flooded areas.

Mack's life was devoted to the love and service of Christ, his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, and many friends.  As a lover of the outdoors, Mack enjoyed travel, golf, fishing, camping, and sports of all kinds.  He was an avid Duke sports fan, and especially looked forward to college basketball season.  He and Viviane also served as host family for several Forest City Owls Baseball Team members, and could be seen at every home game.

Mack is survived by his wife, Viviane Mitchell McCormick, a son, Brian McCormick and wife Sarah and their children, Harper and Beau all of Durham, two daughters, Brooke McCormick of Durham, Charlotte Horn and husband Andrew and their daughter, Adelaide of Forest City.  Mack is also survived  by two sisters, Mary Lynn Rivenbark and husband Jimmy of Burgaw, NC, and Debbie Caulder and husband Gary of LaGrange, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Garin Hill officiating.  Visitation will follow the service in the Family Fellowship Hall.  He will be buried in a private ceremony at the Cool Springs Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorials be made to NCBM (North Carolina Baptists on Mission), P.O. Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512 or at https://baptistsonmission.org/
