William Higgins Obituary

William Higgins, age 71 of Rutherfordton, died Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his residence following a sudden illness.  William was born on November 5, 1948 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Herman and Ethel H. Higgins.  He was a retired machinist and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.  William was a graduate of Chase High School Class of 1968 and he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Forrest Higgins, and Harlan Higgins, and sister, Gayle Bailey.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shelia Woody Higgins, his son, Brandon Higgins and wife Lisa of Rutherfordton, his daughter, Brooke McCraw and husband Thomas of Ellenboro, brothers, Francis Higgins of Indiana, and Clint Higgins of Forest City, sisters, Rose Jackson of Mills River, NC and Lillian Womack of Burnsville, NC.  There are also three grandchildren, C.J. Higgins, Lucas Harris, and Reese McCraw.

A service from the graveside will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Chris Fox officiating.  Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.

William will lie in state from 1:30 until 5 o’clock Friday afternoon in The Chapel of Padgett and King Mortuary for those that wish to pay their respects.
