William Burgin Obituary

William Jennings Burgin, “Bill,” age 67 of Ellenboro, NC, died Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Atrium Health Cleveland.  Bill was born in Pensacola, FL, on Oct 29, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Wilbur Burgin and his brother Robert Burgin.

Bill graduated from West Springfield High School in Fairfax, VA, and attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. For many years Bill worked at United Southern Industry in Forest City, NC, as a Quality Control Manager and then as a Project Manager.

Bill enjoyed watching NASCAR events with his wife Teresa. He took great pride in his Shelby Mustangs. He was a crossword enthusiast and model train collector. After Bill’s father died, Bill became the Director of The Rutherford County Farm Museum in Forest City, NC. He continued his Dad’s legacy to remember and honor the heritage of the early development of Rutherford County, NC.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Teresa, her sons Tim Bird and Toby Bird, her daughter-in-law Kristen, and grandson Graeme. Bill also is survived by his daughter Kathryn Gridley, his sister Barbara Vlattas, her husband Nick, niece Kristen Wickre and her husband David, nephew Nicholas Vlattas, great niece Eleni Sarantakos, and great nephew Andrew Wickre.

A memorial service will be held privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Rutherford County Farm Museum, 240 Park Square Extension, Forest City, NC 28043
