Wilber Nash Hardin, Jr., 91 of Shiloh, NC went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children. Wilber was born on June 17, 1933 in Fairmont, NC to Wilber Nash Hardin, Sr. and Mary J. Sealey Hardin; he was the ninth of ten brothers. From the ages of 5-18 he was raised in the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh, NC. He then served in the U.S. Army and attended Appalachian State University. Wilber moved to Shiloh in 1960 where he met his wife Doris. Wilber served as a teacher, coach, and principal at Shiloh Elementary for a combined 34 years. Wilber was devoted to the Lord and a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School; for the latter part of his life until death, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton. Most of all, Wilber was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who loved his family dearly and every student he taught. Wilber’s faith guided his life and was reflected in his humility and love for his fellow man.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all nine brothers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Watson Hardin. Also by his three children: daughter Robin Greene and husband Kenny; son Mike Hardin and wife Janie; and daughter Jill Knox and husband Jamie. His seven grandchildren: Jordan Greene and wife Hayley; Kelsea Burton and husband Luke; Eli Hardin and wife Caroline; Sydney Hayes and husband Caleb; and Jacob, Jackson, and Jada Knox. His six great-grandchildren: Nash and Dawson Greene; Lyla, Harper, and Mae Burton; and Ruth Hardin.
The immediate family will observe a private graveside service in the morning of April 28 and will receive friends that same day from 2:00-3:30 at First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton fellowship hall with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 in the sanctuary. ln lieu of flowers the family asks for donations via check to the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery Fund; address 1810 Poors Ford Rd, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
