Thomas Edward Carswell, age 84 of Bostic, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Tom as he was known, was the son of the late Earl and Emmalee Arrowood Carswell. Born April 8, 1936 in Forest City, he was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and he served his country in the United States Army.
Tom was a faithful member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He worked for Lowes for many years where he retired. In his retirement, he worked for the Rutherford County Schools as a bus driver for special needs students. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a cattle farmer and gardener until recently. He served on the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau and was a member of the Rutherford County Cattleman’s Association.
Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara C. Washburn.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Kay Young Carswell of the home, his son, Thomas Edward Carswell, II and wife Laura of Clarkesville, Georgia, and his daughter, Lynn Carswell Whittington and husband Tom of Greenville, South Carolina, a sister, Evelyn Carswell of Forest City and his nephew, Richard Washburn and wife Juanita of Bostic.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Reverend Paul White, Jr and Reverend Jason Toney officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 in the Sanctuary prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are requested.
