Thomas Winfred “Tommy” Harmon, age 81 of Rutherfordton, died Friday, August 28, 2020 at his home. Tommy was born on January 19. 1939 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Winfred and Ruth Padgett Harmon. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton and the owner of Tommy Harmon Grading Company. He was in the grading business for more than sixty years. Tommy also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Boiter Harmon, brothers, Bobby Harmon and Steven Harmon, and sister, Jean Harmon.
Survivors include his wife, Andrea S. Leslie Harmon of the home, a son, Tommy Harmon and wife Amy of Kings Mountain, daughters, Pam Harmon of Shelby and Carole Harmon Tharpe and husband Neal of Mooresville, a step-daughter, Sonya Moore of Kannapolis, NC, a brother, James Harmon and wife Beth of Bostic. There are also two grandchildren, Wendy Harmon, Katie Harmon, a great-grandson, Pierce Davis, as well as three step-grandchildren, Adam Yelton, Evan Yelton, and Samantha Hewitt, a step-great-grandchild, Lillie Hewitt; a sister-in-law, Brenda Boiter of Forest City and a special aunt, Eunice Dobbins of Rutherfordton.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, September 3, 2020 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. In-Yong Lee officiating. He will lie in state at the Padgett and King Mortuary on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 2 until 6 o’clock for those that wish to view and pay their respects.
