Susan (Goforth) Padgett

Our beloved Susan Gail Goforth Padgett died on April 20, 2023. “In our minds we always knew this time would come but knowing it and living it has come and gone so fast.” (A. Williams)

She was the daughter of the late Avery and Grace Goforth of Bostic, N.C., and the niece of her beloved Uncle, Ray Bailey, also of Bostic.

Susan was the wife of Jack Padgett and the devoted mother of Averia Grace Padgett Barton and son-in-law Daniel of Reidville, S.C. 

Her sister, Tammy Randall (Roger) and a special niece Emily Caldwell (Dalton) and nephews Will (Ellie) and Weston Randall, along with a great nephew Griffin Caldwell, and a great niece Harper Randall are left to cherish her memory.

Susan graduated from East Rutherford High School and Gardner Webb College where she received a degree in education. She was a teacher for 40 years and touched the lives of hundreds of children both at Sunshine Elementary and Blacksburg Primary in South Carolina.

Susan’s greatest loves were her family, her students, her clothing business—Fancy Rags—and her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Mia. She also enjoyed going to the beach, sitting by the pool, and spending time with her many friends and colleagues.

Before her death, in her journal entitled “For I Know the Plans I have For You Declares the Lord”, there was a handwritten note by Susan that said, “Life isn’t fair, but God is. He heals the broken hearted and their wounds and bruises.  We may not know why things happen the way they do, but we can know God.”

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 11 am in the Padgett and King Chapel. The receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 5 until 7 pm at Padgett & King. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to RCSEF, in care of the Rutherford County Schools Backpack Program/Lisa Bralley, 382 West Main Street, Forest City, N.C. 28043. (Please indicate on your check that this donation is for the Backpack Program in memory of Susan Padgett.)
