Shirley Ann Godfrey Haynes, age 85 of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026.  Shirley was born on February 8, 1941, in Rutherford County and lived a life rooted in love, family, church, kindness towards others, and her faith in God.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Gaither and Katie Smith Godfrey, and her beloved son, Charles Anthony Haynes, lovingly known as “Chuck”.

She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School in the Class of 1959 and King’s Business College in Shelby.  Shirley was also an active member of Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 66 years, Ralph Haynes, who stood by her side through life’s many seasons.  She is also survived by her dear cousins, Phillip Godfrey and Judy Ammon as well as several nieces and nephews that will continue to carry her memory forward. 

Shirley had a special place in her heart for her extended family and close friends, including Larry and Lou Andrews, and Aaron, Ashley, and Kolton Suggs, who were like family to her and brought her great joy.

She will be remembered for her warm spirit, her gentle heart, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.  Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the memories that will be treasured forever. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with the Reverend Chad Sisk officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the service.
