Sammie Blanton Obituary

Sammie Lynn Blanton, age 78 of Ellenboro died Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Hospice House in Forest City.  Sam was born in Rutherford County on March 9, 1947, and was the son of the late Carl and Docia Patterson Blanton.  He was the last surviving sibling of their eleven children.

He was a graduate of East Rutherford High School and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.  Sam also served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Liz C. Blanton of the home, his son, Rick “Moto” Blanton and wife Joy of Ellenboro, his daughters, Sharon Dobbins and husband Greg of Spindale, and Marlena Dunkle and husband Donnie of Harris, NC. There are eight grandchildren and as well as a number of great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held from 12 until 2 o’clock on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Liberty Baptist Church.  Military honors will be accorded at the church at the conclusion of visitation at 2 o’clock.
