Ruth Toney Newton

Ruth Toney Newton, age 94 of the Sunshine Community died Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Willow Ridge Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Born November 1, 1926, she was the oldest of seven children of the Late Yates and Lona McFarland Toney. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Alvin Lee Newton in 2015, two sisters, Doris Toney Horton and Margaret Toney Jonas, as well as a brother, Forrest Yates Toney,

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Alan Hill, a grandson, Cory Hill and Ashley, all of Sunshine; two sisters, Nell Toney Earley of Forest City and Barbara Toney Toms of Shelby; a brother, Hubert Toney of Kings Mountain.

Funeral services will he held Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 2 o’clock at The Padgett & King Chapel with the Reverend Stephen Cooper officiating. A private interment will be held in the Mount Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service the mortuary.
