Ruth Blake Fowler

Ruth Blake Fowler, age 82 of Rutherfordton died Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born November 8, 1937 in Rutherford County, North Carolina she was a daughter of the late Garland and Vergie Ruth White Blake. She was retired from Spindale Mills and was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Bobby Dean Fowler in 2011, a son, Michael Shane Fowler, a grandson, Michael David Cordell, five brothers, Warren G. “Shorty” Blake, Dan Blake, Perry Blake, Bobby Blake, James Blake, and a sister, Louise Weedon.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Dean Fowler, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn of Rutherfordton;  two daughters, Freida Cordell and her husband, David of Rutherfordton and  Susan Ficken and her husband, Eddie of Inman, SC; two sisters, Jane Banning of Rutherfordton and Hazel Walker of Forest City;

There are six grandchildren, Becky Honeycutt and her husband Brian, Mandy Kimbrell and her husband, Johnny, Chadd Fowler and his wife, Amber, Heath Fowler, and Drew and Tori Scroggs, as well as great-grandchildren, Austin Lancaster and Casey, Montana Honeycutt, Lucas Kimbrell, Brody Fowler, Aaliyah Fowler, Bayleigh Fowler, Finley Fowler, and Brooks Nelson.

The funeral service will be Monday, March 16, 2020 at 3 o’clock in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Sydney Calhoun and the Reverend Bryan Ezell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o’clock prior to the service at the Church.

The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Freida and David Cordell, 321 Jim Dobbins Road, Rutherfordton.
