Roger Dale Sams, age 77 of Bostic died Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Roger was born on May 10, 1946, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Walt and Mary Reid Sams.
He was a law enforcement officer having first worked for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department and then at Forest City Police Department where he served for over thirty years. Following retirement, Roger took a job with CKL Electric where he continued to work.
Roger was a member of Concord Baptist Church and was a former choir member. He was a former Boy Scout Leader, Tee Ball Coach, and youth football leader. Roger was a lover of all things outdoors including hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed racing and the Atlanta Braves and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Laura Pace Sams, his son, Tracy Sams (April) of Bostic, his daughter, Dale Sams Saine (Chad) of Bostic, his brother, Raymond Sams (Laura) of Shelby, his sister, Geraldine Sams Carpenter of Ellenboro. There are also three grandchildren, Crystal Sams, Christian Sams, and Raelynn Sams, and four great-grandchildren, Mason, Kenzlee, Paislee, and Kolbie.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday, August 27, 2023, in Concord Baptist Church with the Reverend Travis Laflin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with honors accorded by the Forest City Police Department. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary from 1:30 until 2:45 prior to the service.
