Robert Rogers Obituary


William Robert Rogers, age 82 of Forest City died Friday, February 9, 2024, at his home.  Robert was born on February 23, 1941, in Sevier County, Tennessee and was a son of the late Victor Boyd Rogers and Irene Tarwater Rogers.  He graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy in 1959 as well as receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962.  In 1962 he began teaching at Seymour High School in Seymour, Tennessee and later served as Principal until 1969.  In that same year he received his Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee and began his career at Isothermal Community College as a History Professor where he taught until his retirement with 34 years’ service to the college.    

Robert was active in the community and was a member of the Florence Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher as well as serving on various committees.  He also served as a Mentor for the McNair Foundation, taught in the Goal Program at Gardner-Webb University, and served on the Planning and Zoning Board for the Town of Forest City.  Robert was a man of deep conviction and faith in his Lord, serving faithfully his entire life. 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Martha Breeden Rogers of the home, his son, Phil Rogers and wife Amy of Rutherfordton, his daughter, Amanda Smith and husband Michael of Bostic, his brother, James Tarwater Rogers and wife Kristina of Seymour, Tennessee.  There are also four grandchildren, Taylor Weaver (Danny), Tyler Weaver, Emma Rogers, and Grace Rogers and a great-granddaughter, Raelynn Dani Pratt.

A service from the graveside will be held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in the Cool Springs Cemetery with the Reverend Terry Roach officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
