Richard Osborne “Ricky” Robbins, age 69 of Forest City, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Hospice House in Forest City.  Ricky as he was known to his family and friends grew up in Forest City, North Carolina where he was raised in the First Baptist Church.  He was a proud graduate of East Rutherford High School in the Class of 1972, and a talented welder who worked most of his career on the Alaskan Pipeline. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Helen Collins Robbins, his brother, Brad Robbins as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

According to his friends, Rick was an engaging conversationalist and adventurer. With a sharp mind and wit, he had an outstanding career in high school as an active member of the Key Club and other school groups. In 1971 he ran for district governor of Key Club's Carolina's District and had he won, would have represented both North and South Carolina. His speeches during that campaign were highly entertaining. He also played football for East Rutherford and acquitted himself well. He played drums on the Winding River album which featured notables like Rod Abernathy and Jock and Maggie Lauterer. His drumming was often featured in local bands. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Helen Collins Robbins, and his brother, Brad Robbins and well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

His is survived by his aunt and uncle as well as many cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock on Friday, May 31, 2024, in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Pat Jobe officiating.  Family and friends will visit following the service.  Interment will be held privately.
