Raymond Philmore Blackwell, age 73 of Rutherfordton, died Sunday, June 16, 2024.  Raymond was born on September 9, 1950, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina and was the son of the late Archie and Lila Ree Kimbrell Blackwell. 

Raymond was a master weaver and worked in textiles for most of his life, retiring from Mohawk Industries.  After retirement, he worked as a security guard for Carpenter Designs, a job he loved.  Hard work and the love of his family was always at the center of his life.  He was an excellent provider, truly devoted as a husband, father, and grandfather.  A man of quiet faith, he was an active member of Spindale Church of The Brethren and faithfully attended until his health declined. 

Raymond was a humble man as was admired by those that knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane R. Blackwell of the home, his daughter, Amanda Blackwell Whittemore and husband Chris of Clayton, NC, his granddaughter, Lily Jo Blackwell, his sister, Joyce Ann Searcy of Alabama, and nephews, Dustin Randolph and Kevin Reid.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Tarrance Randolph officiating. .  The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o’clock Thursday prior to the service at the mortuary.  Interment will be private for the family.
