Ray Junior Ferguson, age 73 of Rutherfordton, died Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home. Ray was born on August 22, 1947 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Ellis Ferguson and Cleo Greene Ferguson. He worked in textiles for Mastercraft Corp. and with his wife at Mimmes Stay & Play Childcare.
He was a lifelong Baptist and served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While in Vietnam, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ellis Jay Ferguson, and brothers, Clifford and Gene Ferguson.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Wanda Edney Ferguson of the home, a daughter, Jennifer Ferguson McCluney and husband Justin, his sister, Lois Whitesides, and three grandchildren, Kelsey Ferguson, Sawyer Bray, and Elizabeth Bray.
The funeral service will be held at two o’clock Monday, October 5, 2020 at The Padgett and King Chapel with interment to follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the service.
