Randy Eli “Cowboy” Toney, age 68 of Mooresboro died Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Randy was born on March 30, 1957, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Wade Eli Toney and Frances Hamrick Toney. He grew up in the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Sunshine.
Randy, or Cowboy as he was known to his family and friends, worked for 29 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He had a great love for the outdoors, and he especially enjoyed horses and horseback riding.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Danny Toney and his sister, Terry Toney.
Survivors include his sons, Josh Toney (Brittany), Nathan Toney, and Eil Toney (Holly), his daughters, Elise Toney, Gabby Toney Robbins (Tyler), and Rozie Toney, his sister, Karen Toney Hyder (Phillip), his niece, Sherie Hyder, and his grandchildren, Jaiden Toney, Brailey Henson, Zayne Henson, Dallas Shelton, Carly Toney, Colby Toney, Hayden Robbins, Adalyn Robbins, Ansley Robbins, and Rylan Robbins as well as his great-grandchildren, Laylani Toney and Legacy Toney.
The family will hold a private service at a later date at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his parents.
