Peggy Jean (Waters) Barker

Peggy Jean Waters Barker, age 80 of Forest City, North Carolina died Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at her home after an extended illness.

Born November 6, 1940, in Rutherford County, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Mary Murtis Biggerstaff and John Arthur Waters. She was a faithful member of Goode’s Creek Baptist Church and was an accomplished seamstress for many years having made many bridesmaid dresses and choir robes.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Waters.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, James Franklin Barker; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Arthur Barker and wife, Denise of Forest City; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Barker Dalton and husband, Kevin of Forest City; a sister, Cathy Butler and husband, Steve of Bostic; two brothers, Claude Waters and wife, Elaine of Rutherfordton, and Floyd Waters of Caroleen; four grandchildren, Ashley Jones and husband, Justin, John Barker and wife, Brandy, Mary Beth Coco and husband, Michael, and Lucas Barker; ten great-grandchildren, Ansley Jones, Adley Jones, Jake Barker, Taylor Barker, Blaze Barker, Johna Barker, Mabry Coco, Isaac Coco, Isabella Coco, and Vera Coco.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11 o’clock at the Goode’s Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Glenn Walker and the Reverend Kenneth Linder officiating. Interment will follow in the Race Path Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at The Padgett and Kings Mortuary.
