Norman Lee Melton, age 86 of Ellenboro, North Carolina, died Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills. Norman was born on April 2, 1935, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late N.C. and Ola Murray Melton. He was a graduate of Ellenboro High School in the Class of 1953, and received a degree in Textile Management from Cleveland Community College. Norman was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church and he enjoyed traveling with church league softball in years past.
Norman worked for Stonecutter Mills where he retired. Following retirement, he enjoyed working for Morrow Motors. He also served his country in the United States Army.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Toney Melton in 2015 as well as his brothers, Chivous Melton, Joe Melton, and Bill Melton.
Survivors include his sons, Phillip Melton and wife Judy of Bostic, Greg Melton of Ellenboro, his daughter, Melissa Melton Lincoln and husband David of Moore, South Carolina, his brother, Jimmy Melton and wife Norma Kay of Ellenboro. There are also four grandchildren, Justin Melton, Michael Melton and wife Jenny, Alysa McGinnis, Destiny Lincoln, and great-grandchild, Olivia Melton.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, October 14, 2021 in the Corinth Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Connor and Reverend Ad Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock Wednesday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
