Nell Reid Scruggs, age 96 of Forest City died Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills.  Nell was born on April 1, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee Reid and Zennie Toney Reid.  She lived all her life in the home she was born in and where she raised her own family. She was a member of Tanners Grove Church and a graduate of Harris High School.  She was a faithful Christian and a devoted wife, and a loving mother and grandmother.

When she was young, her father purchased a piano which she continued to play and enjoy until her death.  Nell was a homemaker and farmer and she loved animals. Working on the farm was a way of life for her.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Scruggs who died in 2003 and infant granddaughter, Jamie Leigh Owens in 1982.

Survivors include her daughter, Becky Scruggs Leach and husband Roy of Forest City, her grandchildren, Corey Lee Owens, and Casey Ann Owens and husband Chris.  There are also five great- grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and her cat Smokey.

A service from the graveside will be held at 2 o’clock on Monday. December 11, 2023, at Tanners Grove Community Church Cemetery with the Reverend Eric Yelton officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o’clock on Sunday afternoon at the Padgett and King Mortuary.
