Nancy Whitener Melton, age 93 of Forest City, died Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Hospice House. She was born August 8, 1927 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Zebulon Vance Whitener and Eva Walker Whitener.
Nancy worked for General Fireproofing for 21 years before becoming a Nursing Assistant working first at Willow Ridge Nursing Center and finally at Henderson Care Center. She was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Rutherfordton and in recent years had attended Bethany Baptist Church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, D. C. Melton, brothers, Armond and John Whitener, her sisters, Darrell McCurry, Maude Campbell, and Noel Powell as well as a granddaughter, Melanie Greene.
Survivors include her son, Charles Vance Campbell and wife T.J. of Hickory, daughters, Vivian Birchall and husband Philip of Spindale, Eva Lou Conner and husband Harold of Forest City, a sister, Goldie McSwain and husband Alton of Lattimore. There are 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren as well as a number of great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Bethany Baptist Church with the Reverend Chris Fox officiating. Visitation will be in the sanctuary from 10 until 11 o’clock prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery, Rutherfordton.
