Nancy (Phillips) Burns

Nancy Phillips Burns, age 86, of Iron Station, North Carolina, formerly of Rutherfordton, died Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Peak Resources of Cherryville, surrounded by her family.   Nancy was born on January 25, 1936, in Greer, South Carolina, to Bruce and Idilla Phillips and was raised by her grandparents, Gary and Maude Armstrong. 

Nancy was an interior designer, having worked for Grindstaff Interiors for over 40 years upon her retirement, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Forest City.  Nancy loved animals and was always feeding and "looking out" for the strays and, on many occasions, would bring the strays home with her.   Nancy's greatest love was her horses, including barrel racing in her younger years and cutting horses as she got older, but nothing was ever better for Nancy than a long trail ride. 

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, J. Carson Burns Sr., and a son John C. Burns, Jr.  Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Nina Gettys and husband Mike of Duncan's Creek; Carson Goff and husband Geoff of Iron Station; and Martha Ogburn and husband Dan of Charlotte.  Grandchildren William Johnson and wife Susan of New Bern; Kaleb Johnson and wife Misty, Jovi Self and husband Andrew, and Zack Campbell and fiancé Amber all of Ellenboro; Will Zweier and wife Rachel of Charlotte; Kathryn Horger and husband Wilson of Wrightsville Beach; Matt Zweier and wife Vanessa of Charlotte; Carlee and Lilly Goff both of Iron Station.  Great-Grandchildren Evan, Liam, and Sadie Johnson of New Bern; Landyn, Ryland, and Mayson Johnson of Ellenboro; Dalton Eaker and Lorelai Self of Ellenboro; Kenley Murray of Ellenboro; Zoe Zweier of Charlotte.  Nancy is also survived by a special cousin, Carmen Adams of Taylors, South Carolina.   

The memorial service will be conducted at 3 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Duncan's Creek Church, with Reverend Tonya Garrison officiating.   The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 o'clock prior to the service at The Padgett & King Mortuary.
