Myles Vernon Jones

Myles Vernon Jones, age 89 of Mooresboro died Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina.   Born in Cherokee County, South Carolina on November 21, 1933, he was a son of the late Cliff and Ethel Cantrell Jones.    He was a member of State Line Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher.    

Myles worked for Whitney Textiles, Magnolia and retired from the maintenance department at Kohler Company.  He was also the operator of a local filling station.  Myles was a member of the Hopewell-Hollis Ruritan Club.  His hobby was carpentry and his woodworking shop.   He loved tractors, 4 wheelers, golf carts, gardening, die cast cars and mowing grass.   Myles was instrumental in the flags for veteran graves program and Keenagers at State Line Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Charles, Hoyle, Dean, Jack, Ravanell, Bill, J.R., Tula, Sue, and Betty Joe.  

Surviving is his wife Dorothy “Dot” Jones of the home; his stepdaughter Tyra Jones and husband Bruce of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; stepsons Tim Callahan and wife Tammie of Ellenboro, North Carolina and Randy Callahan of Fresno, California;  grandchildren Sarah, Whitney, and Josh;  great-grandson Henry and several nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service will be conducted at eleven o’clock on the morning of Saturday, August 19, 2023 at State Line Baptist Church.   Reverend Jack Patillo, Reverend Bobby Lindsey and Reverend Bruce Jones will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o’clock in the family life center prior to the service.    Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
