Frederick Michael “Mike” Metzenthin, age 81 of Bostic, North Carolina, died Friday, January 19, 2024, at Hospice House in Forest City.  Mike was born on August 13, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri and was a son of the late Frederick Karl Metzenthin and Mary McGarvey Metzenthin. 

Mike was first and foremost a Christian and follower of Christ.  He loved being around people and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  Mike also loved his family and considered them his greatest blessing.  He cherished the time he spent with them. 

He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ticonderoga in the Gulf of Tonkin.  Mike earned several degrees including Economics and Finance and in his professional life, he worked as an Appraiser and Consultant in private investment management. 

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Whetherholt Metzenthin, daughters, Lara Gresham and husband James of Glen Elgin, New South Wales, Australia, Tara Watt and husband John of Ellenboro, and Dana Stickney and husband Ken of New House.  There are also nine grandchildren, Michael, Lindsay, Aaron, Maggie, Audrey, Mark, Tre, Gillian, and Jesse. 

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Friday, January 26, 2024, in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Billy Salyers officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellenboro.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock on Friday prior to the service at the mortuary.
