Michael Toney Obituary

Michael Wayne Toney, age 68 of Bostic died Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

Born August 18, 1952 in Rutherford County, North Carolina he was the son of Nellie Mae Thomas Toney of Bostic and the late Grady Martin Toney. He was a veteran of the United States Army, was employed with PPG for a number of years and later retired from Azdel Inc. where he was a Supervisor.

He was a member of the First Broad Baptist Church, loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wanda Self Toney; two daughters, Lissa Toney Queen and husband, Reverend Ben Wilson “Tripp’ Queen III, and Misty Toney Whitaker, all of Bostic; a sister, Sherri Toney Yelton and husband, Michael of Bostic; his grandchildren, Amber Michelle Whitaker, Allison Queen Bumgarner and husband, Kevin, and Jacob Wilson Queen, all of Bostic;  two great-grandchildren, Presley Marie Bumgarner and Jensen Blane Bumgarner. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Timothy “Timmy” Whitaker.

Funeral services will be held privately for the family on Friday, November 20, 2020 at The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Robert Bradley, the Reverend Earl Godfrey and the Reverend Tripp Queen officiating. Interment with Military Honors conducted by Rutherford County Honor Guard will follow in the First Broad Baptist Church Cemetery in Golden Valley.
