Merlin Hines, age 87, of Henrietta passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
Merlin was born in Rutherford County on November 10, 1933 and was the son of the late Allison and Reola Hines.
Merlin was a graduate of Harris High School in 1952. He was an active member of Henrietta First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served in capacity of Deacon. He worked in the textile industry through the years and most recently worked with Jeweltex and Custom Home Fashions.
In addition to his parents, Merlin was preceded in death by his wife of over forty years Margaret Estep Hines, stepson Mike Estep, granddaughter Jessica Hines, daughter-in-law Adrian Hines, brothers Gene Hines and Jack Hines, sister-in-law Irene Hines, brothers-in-law Perry Estep and Dan Mays.
Surviving are son Terry Hines (Kathy) of Cliffside, N.C.; daughter Cindy Houser of Cliffside, N.C.; son Kenny Hines (Sherri) of Cliffside, N.C.; stepson Phillip Walker (Diane) of Bostic, N.C, daughter-in-law Judy Estep of Harris, N.C.; grandchildren Shawn Henline, Justin Houser, Seth Hines, Kaleb Hines, Allison Whitaker (Adam), Lukas Hines, Jennifer Brooks (Tyler), Allison Faulkenberry (Ben), Kelsey Tomberlin (Chris), and Kristen Huddleston (Kaleb), Heather Bailey, Michelle Whisnant, Stephanie Phillips, and Jeff Estep. Merlin is also survived by brothers Marlin Hines, Miles Hines (Nancy), and Randy Hines (Susan), sisters Ebba Mays, Carolyn Kinney (Albert), Darlene Caldwell (Tommy), and sister-in-law Betty Ray. He is also survived by great grandchildren Blakely Henline, Jaylee Henline, Oakley Gardner, Sawyer Hines, Cooper Brooks, Mason Brooks, Izzy Faulkenberry, Jones Faulkenberry, Zeb Ronzello, Lindsey Greene, Madison Whisnant, Dillon Phillips, and Kyndra Phillips.
Due to COVID protocols a private family service will be held. ***The service will be livestreamed via the Padgett & King Facebook page and will begin at Two o'clock on Monday, January 11, 2021.
