Max Toney Obituary

Max Oliver Toney, age 83 of Ellenboro, died Friday, October 16, 2020 at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills.   Max was born on March 19, 1937 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Edley and Eunice Melton Toney.  He worked as a carpet and flooring installer for fifty years. He also enjoyed farming and restoring old tractors, especially John Deere tractors. 

He was a lifelong member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and on many committees over the years.  Max also served his country in the United States Army.  His sister, Gladys Gettys preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Martina Hodge Toney of the home, a son, Gerald Toney and wife Lynn of Ellenboro, two daughters, Denise Hill and husband Barry of Bostic, and Ann Boyd and husband Marty of Ellenboro, his brothers, Ray Toney and David Toney, sisters, Inez England, Dorothy Wright, and Carolyn  Greene.  There are also six grandchildren, Clayton Toney (Tara), Courtney Black (Jason), Rebecca Hill, Grant Hill, Jordan Boyd and Sarah Boyd, as well as four great-grandchildren, Haidyn Toney, Tate Black, Clara Black, and Charlee Toney.

A graveside service will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday, October 18, 2020 in the Campfield Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Nicholas King officiating.  Due to Covid-19 concerns, the family will not hold visitation but instead his body will lie in repose at The Padgett and King Mortuary on Sunday from 9 until 12:30 for those who wish to pay respects.
