Mary Lee Callahan Curtis, age 91, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Fairhaven of Bostic where she was a resident. She was born in Forest City on September 13, 1930. She and her husband Cromer were former residents of Forest Hills Drive in Forest City.
Mary Lee was a lifelong member of Florence Baptist Church where she was active in many church activities, and she attended faithfully until her health would no longer allow her to do so.
She worked for the Town of Forest City her entire career in the City Clerks Office where she served as City Clerk. Her tenure lasted for more that forty years from April,1950 until her retirement in 1991. Mary Lee received many awards and citations for her loyalty and devotion to the town and its citizens. Mary Lee and her husband Cromer enjoyed travel and a favorite destination was the Hemlock Inn at Bryson City, North Carolina. She loved to paint and was both talented and gifted as an artist.
Mary Lee is preceded in death by her devoted husband of forty-four years, Cromer Harold Curtis in 2018. Her parents William (Bill) Logan Callahan and Flora Marks Callahan, sister Patsy Callahan Botts, brother Henry Roger Callahan, nephew Eric Callahan and great-nephew, Derrick Callahan.
She is survived by loving nieces and nephews, Patricia Schmoutz (Stephen), Eddie Botts, David Botts, and great nieces and nephews Daniel Botts, Tara Botts, Anna Botts Pitchford (Westley), Michael Botts (Emily) of Shelby NC, Lacey Callahan of Hickory NC, Gracie Schmoutz, Annabella Schmoutz, Cole Schmoutz, and one great, great nephew Henry Botts, all of Shelby NC.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock on Sunday, April 24, 2022 in Florence Baptist Church with the Reverend Tonya Garrison and Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o'clock in the Narthex prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery.
