Mary Helen (Shehan) Vickers

Mary Helen Vickers, age 87 of Forest City, died Friday, November 19, 2021, at Fairhaven of Forest City. Mary Helen was born on August 26, 1934, in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late John Dean Shehan and Eula Dobbins Shehan.

She was a faithful member of Crestview Baptist Church where for 47 years she served as the church organist. Mary Helen worked for Hamrick, Nanney, Bowen and Dalton Attorneys as a paralegal for many years until her retirement. Prior to that, she worked for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Damon Huskey as the first female deputy in Rutherford County and later as secretary to the sheriff.

Mary Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and her family was her pride and joy.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Robert Cecil Vickers of the home, her son, Robert Scott Vickers, and wife Denita of Forest City, her daughter, Debbie Vickers Harris, and husband Scott of Rutherfordton. There are also five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one expectant great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Crestview Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Rohm officiating. Interment will follow at the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 in the sanctuary prior to the service.
