Mary Woody Obituary

Mary Lee Whisnant Woody, age 93, a former resident of Valleyview Drive, Forest City, died Friday, April 10, 2020 at Fairhaven Home in Bostic. Mary Lee was born May 16, 1926 in Polkville, North Carolina and was a daughter of the late John Nolan Whisnant and Florence W. Whisnant. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Forest City and worked for many years at Gamble’s Florist.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her son James Woody.

Survivors include her sister Ruth Powell, her daughters Judy Cairo (husband Michael Simpson) and Joanne Oates, daughter-in-law Linda Woody, granddaughter Ashley Friedman (husband Addison), grandson Justin Woody (wife Sara), and great-granddaughter, Peyton Friedman. The family wants to say special thanks to her caregivers at Hospice of Rutherford County for their excellent care during her stay there.

A private service for her family will be held at Cool Springs Cemetery. The family will announce plans for a memorial service to celebrate her life at a later date.
