Mary Merck Obituary

Mary Frances Smith Merck, age 83 of Ellenboro died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Fairhaven Home.  Mary Frances was born on February 25, 1935 in Forest City and was a daughter of the late Wilbur E. and Ollie Teal Smith.  She worked 42 years in banking, starting her career with Union Trust Company which later became Independence National Bank and finally BB&T where she retired.  Mary Frances was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and a member of First Baptist Church.  She also held close bonds with Concord Baptist Church where she often attended with her late husband. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Merck, and brothers, Robert Smith and Howard (Bub) Smith. 

Survivors include her sister, Joanne Rowe of Upper Marlboro, MD, sisters-in-law, Faye T. Smith of Forest City and Grace Smith of Rutherfordton.  There are also nieces and nephews and community of friends that loved Mary Frances.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o' clock on Friday, May 4, 2018 in  The First Baptist Church of Forest City with the Reverend Dr. Garin Hill officiating and a eulogy will be given by her sister, Joanne Rowe.  Interment will follow in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 until 2 o'clock Friday in the Family Fellowship Hall of the church.
