Mary Louise (Hayes) Elliott

Mary Hayes Elliott, age 90 of Forest City died Monday, September 10, 2018 at her residence.  Mary was born October 6, 1927 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Wilbur Haile Hayes and Louise Murph Hayes.  In her youth , the family moved to Rutherford County where she graduated from Harris High School.  Mary continued her education at Winthrop College and later received her master's degree from Western Carolina University. 

She retired from the Rutherford County School system where she taught at several schools including Alexander Elementary and Dunbar Elementary School. 

Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forest City and was a former Deacon and member of the Love Circle Sunday School class.  She had also been a volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Rutherford Hospital Ladies auxiliary and was a member of the Griffith Rutherford Chapter of the D.A. R.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Hoyle Elliott in 2015.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Elliott and wife Christine of Flat Rock, NC, Mike Elliott and wife Robyn of Forest City, Ken Elliott and wife Sherri of Newton, NC, a daughter, Anne Elliott of Forest City, a sister, Rebecca Hayes Ruth of Pawley's Island, SC.  There are also seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held at eleven o'clock Thursday in the Family Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Garin Hill and Rev. J. Anthony Spencer officiating.   The family will receive friends following the service.  Interment will be private for the immediate family in the Cool Springs Cemetery.
