Martha Jean McFarland White, age 84 of Bostic died Friday, May 2, 2025, following a sudden illness.  Martha Jean was born on April 16, 1941, in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Kirby Allison McFarland and Annie Lois Padgett McFarland. 

Martha Jean was a 1959 graduate of Ellenboro High School and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.  She worked for the Rutherford County Department of Social Services where she retired with 38 years of service.  On December 1, 1973, she married Lawrence White.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth McFarland and her sister-in-law, Mary Gwendolyn Gettys.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence “Bo” White of the home, her sister-in law, Peggy McFarland of Forest City, brother and sister-in law, Gary and Vickie White of New Bern, North Carolina as well as her nephew and niece.

The memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in The Padgett and King Chapel officiated by the Reverend Kathy Earley and a eulogy given by Mr. Clyde Lovelace.  Interment will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 until the hour of service at the mortuary.
