Martha Phillips Lail, age 82 of Charlotte and former resident of Forest City, died Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Mercy Hospital. She was born August 13, 1937 in Shelby, North Carolina and was one of eleven children born to the late Gladys and Savannah Camp Phillips.
Martha was a graduate of Shelby High School and she retired from Gen-Pak Plastics in Forest City. She was a devoted minister’s wife, a loving mother, grandmother and hard worker who cared for her family. Her hobbies included flea markets, yard sales and tennis. She also loved her dog, “Peppy” which gave her companionship and joy.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Earl C. Lail, her sons, David C. Lail, Earl Douglas Lail as well as brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Robbie Lail Draughn and husband Willis Draughn, Sr. of Charlotte, her son, Charles R. Lail and wife Kim of Belmont,, and a sister, Mary Goins of Easley, South Carolina. There are seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in the Cool Springs Cemetery with Pastor Theo Schaffer officiating. There will be a viewing from 10:30 until 11:30 Wednesday morning at The Padgett and King Mortuary for those who wish to pay their respects.
