Mark S. McCurry Obituary

Mark Stuart McCurry, age 66 of Forest City, passed away peacefully and went to Heaven on May 11, 2024, with his family holding his hands and at his side.

He was born and raised in Rutherford County and was a graduate of East Rutherford High School in the Class of 1976.  Mark was also the owner of McCurry Auto Service and McCurry Motors in Rutherfordton.  He began working with his father, John in 1983 at McCurry Auto Service and was still working there days before his death.

Mark was an avid Harley-Davidson rider and loved old cars, most of them rusty and in need of repair.  He always drove a vehicle with both feet, even though it was automatic and not a straight drive.   For him it was Chevrolet all the way.  Pontiac and GM cars and trucks were allowed, but any other car brand was out of the question.   He was a Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Hejaz Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Dewey McCurry, and Myra Montieth McCurry.

He is survived by the love of his life, Teresa Morrow Panther of the home, his daughters, Amy McCurry Wellmon (Seth), Amanda Atchley Adair, Lisa Atchley Pruitt (Johnny), and his son Travis McCurry.   He leaves behind a legacy for his grandchildren, Markus (Bree), and Gwen Taylor (Mason) , Uriah, Leona, and Tohrren McCurry, Kayla Green, Katelyn Crowe, Kaleb Adair, Chloe Adair, Reagan Sprouse and Alexis Pruitt, and his sweet babies include Fenix, Oliver, Elena Jo and Kace.

He was the middle child leaving behind two brothers, Joel and Jason, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. There are also his cousins, aunts, uncles, that he loved dearly along with his many loyal friends and customers. Lost without him are his beloved dog, Ziggy, and his best pal, Barney, the shop cat.

He will forever remain in our hearts, a good, honest, caring, loving, and giving man. We love you “Pop Pop” and we miss you so much.

A graveside service will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Morrow-Curve Cemetery, Bridges Drive, Forest City with the Reverend Brian Blanchette officiating.  Masonic Rites will be accorded.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 prior to the service on Saturday at Padgett and King.  Motorcycles and old cars are welcome.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605,

The Padgett and King Mortuary & Crematory is in charge of arrangements and an online guest registry is available at www.padgettking.com
