Marjorie Jones Obituary

Marjorie Jenkins Jones, age 100 of Cliffside, died Saturday, May7, 2022 at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills.  She was born in Rutherford County on December 31, 1921, and was a daughter of the late Walter and Alma Wall Jenkins. 

 

Marjorie was a graduate of Tri-High School and Asheville Normal Teachers College.  She was an elementary educator and taught fifth grade in Nash County from 1943-44, then Second grade at Caroleen in 1944, and then second and third grades at Avondale, then Tri Community from 1946 until her retirement in 1978, for a total of thirty four years.

 

She was baptized at High Shoal Baptist Church in 1934, and has attended Calvary Baptist Church since 1933 and eventually became a member of the church in 1951.  She has served as a Sunday School teacher, choir director, and church financial secretary for many years.  She enjoyed singing in the choir and was sometimes soloist.  At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the church.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Gold Jones. Brothers, Walter Jenkins and Bill Jenkins, and sisters, Bernice Brindle, Sara Bridges, and Virginia Jenkins. 

 

Survivors include her sons, Bryson Jones and wife Clyda, and Alan Jones and wife Doris, six grandchildren, Shannon White and husband Gary, Darren Jones and wife Marta, Erika Ammons and husband Danny, Amber Jones, Charles Jones, and Connie Pilkinton and husband Kyle, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren,  Nathanael White and wife Mollee, and daughter Roslyn, Aerin Garza, husband Henry and their daughter, Karis, Joelle, Elise, Anya, Susanna and Tobias White, Kailee Lackey, husband Brandon and their daughter, Lillian, Kenton Ammons, wife Anna and their son Clay, Jared, Alyssa and Mariah Ammons, Morgan Newton, Mason and Lucy Jones and Avery and Easton Pilkinton.

 

The funeral service will be three o’clock Thursday, May 12. 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Frazier officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from six until eight o’clock Wednesday evening in the sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church.
