Marjorie Sorrells Clayton, age 94 of Forest City passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Fair Haven of Forest City. She was born December 2, 1930, in Rutherford County to the late Roswell King Sorrells and Myrtle Dean Sorrells. She was employed by Reeves Brothers, Chesnee, South Carolina for 34 years before retirement.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Smith Clayton, a grandson, Heath Sorrells Clayton and a sister, Gloria Wells. She was a lifelong member of Providence Global Methodist Church and enjoyed many years of volunteering with Chase Corner Ministries.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Clayton (Sherry) of Ellijay, Georgia, and Brent Clayton (Lujuanna) of Forest City, two brothers, Virgil (Bud) Sorrells of Dallas, NC, and Raymond Sorrells (Shirley) of Forest City; grandchildren, Jason Clayton (Sallie Gray) of Charleston, SC, Ashely Reinhardt (George) of Atlanta, Ga; Jonathan Clayton (Becka) of Spartanburg, SC; Lauren Lowe of Forest City; Holly Brochu (Chad) of Flowery Branch, Ga; Victoria Broughton of Wilmington, NC and eight great-grandchildren.
A service from the graveside will be held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend Michael Harrill, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Marjorie will lie in state at the Padgett and King Mortuary from 9 AM until 12 noon on Tuesday morning for those wishing to pay their respects and view.
