Marion Lee Duncan, USN, Retired

Marion Lee Duncan, age 89 of Forest City died Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Marion was born June 12, 1929 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late James and Nina Duncan.  He served in the United States Navy for twenty years and retired at the rank of Petty Officer First Class. 

Marion was a member of Harris First Baptist Church and he preached and shared the gospel for forty-five years in his weekly radio program on radio station, WCAB.  He was faithful to visit local nursing homes where he would sing and visit with residents and he was a volunteer for Hospice of Rutherford County for 15 years.  He also operated a lawn service where he had many customers in Rutherford County. 

Marion was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Lou Frashier Duncan who died in 2012.

Survivors include his sons, David Duncan and wife Patricia of Ellenboro, Dwayne Duncan and wife Lisa of Rutherfordton,  his daughters, Patty Hopper and husband Ron of Burlington, NC, Sharon Moneyham and husband Reverend Scott Moneyham of Rutherfordton, a brother, Herbert Duncan and wife Linda of Waynesville, NC.  There are thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock Thursday at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Reverend George Whitmire and Reverend Scott Moneyham officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be at Holly Springs Baptist Church from 2 until 4 o'clock prior to the service on Thursday.
