Marie Peeler Phillips

Marie Peeler Phillips, age 74 of Forest City, died Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.  Marie was born on November 25, 1946 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Adelaid and Nellie Jane Hamrick Peeler.  She was a lifelong educator, teaching primarily sixth grade in the Rutherford County School System.  Her career began at Harris Elementary School and later at Chase Middle School where she retired with 30 years’ service.  Following her retirement, she continued to substitute in the classroom for an additional five years. Marie was a graduate of East Rutherford High School in the Class of 1965. 

Marie was a member of Floyds Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Choir and was the teacher of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.  Having the heart of a servant, she enjoyed working in Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School and cooking for any church event. 

Her family was her life, and she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and most recently, a great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Leah Robinson and twin granddaughters, Madison and Melanie Flynn.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Phillips of the home, her son, John Phillips and wife Miranda of Forest City, her daughter, Michelle Flynn and husband Matt of Forest City, her sisters, Kathy Earley of Ellenboro and Angela Lovelace of Forest City.  There are also eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday, January 24, 2021 in the Floyds Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The service will be livestreamed at floydscreekchurch.org or on the Floyds Creek Baptist Church YouTube channel.   The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock on Saturday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
