Louise Melton Obituary

Louise Holland Melton, age 93 of Forest City died Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.

Born March 11, 1927 in Rutherford County, North Carolina she was a daughter of the late Guy Jenkins Holland and Ollie Mae Lemons Holland. She was a 1944 graduate of Cool Springs High School and had worked at Buster Brown, Kemet, Odds & Ends which she and her husband ran together and later worked at Goody’s well into her 80’s.

Louise was a faithful member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Howard Arnold Melton in 2012, a daughter, Dianne Melton Bowen in 2008, a son, Dennis M. Melton in 1994, a grandson, Ken M. Bowen III in 1990, and a sister, Inez Holland Marshall.

Louise was blessed to have had a wonderful caregiver and friend, Susan Eddins, for the past five years.

Surviving are her son, Arnold Guy Melton of Forest City; four grandchildren, Michael Melton of Atlanta, Georgia, Jennifer Melton and husband, Jerry Sumrell of Dallas, Texas, Natalie Melton Wills and husband, Justin of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Bridget Melton of Atlanta, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Presley Wills, Collette Wills and Lucky Guy Wills; a sister, Ola Holland Horne of New Bern, North Carolina; a son-in-law, Ken M. Bowen, Jr. and wife, Susie of Forest City; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Walker Melton of Lattimore; a step-brother, Larry Marshall of Frisco, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 12 o’clock noon on Thursday, January 7, 2021 in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Matt Mills and the Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. The family request everyone in attendance wear a mask and exercise social distancing.

Louise will lie in repose from 1 until 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at The Padgett & King Mortuary.
