Lloyd Clyde Yelton Obituary
Mr. Lloyd C. Yelton, 89, died peacefully at Atrium Health Cleveland Pines Nursing Facility on Monday, January 12 after a brief illness. The youngest son of 8 children born to William Yelton and Sallie Ellison Yelton, Lloyd grew up in Mooresboro, NC. After graduating from Boiling Springs High School, he joined the United States’ Air Force and served for four years.
Returning to North Carolina after his military service, Lloyd earned an Associates’ Degree in Accounting from Cleveland Community College and then worked in human resources for several textile mills across the state. Eventually, he returned to his native Cleveland County and settled into life on Lindsey Lee Lane, his beloved street and home for over 30 years, where friends, family, and neighbors all referred to him as Uncle Lloyd.
Despite retiring from human resources, Lloyd kept busy working several part time jobs in the area from working at the Boiling Springs waste site, custodian/bus driver at Crest Middle School, finance manager at Ed Stiebel Imports, and the morning receptionist at Curves Fitness.
Throughout his life, Lloyd loved to start his day with a pot of good coffee, sipping on cups of it from morning to evening. He also loved numbers and took pleasure in completing tax returns, something most avoid. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf with friends, particularly his six brothers and fishing with his son. When not spending time on his beloved street or walking the Homestead Acres neighborhood, Lloyd enjoyed the beach and would frequently go to Murrells Inlet for walks and fresh seafood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Yelton, June Yelton, Ralph Yelton, Jesse Yelton, Frank Yelton, and Glenn Yelton, and sister, Virginia Yelton Toney along with his son, Bruce Yelton, and a daughter, Sandra Yelton. He is survived by his grandson, John Yelton, Panama City Beach, FL, granddaughter, Erica Yelton Blanton (Zach), Woodruff, SC, two great-granddaughters, Maddie and Ella Blanton, niece Joyce T. Davis of Boiling Springs, and great-niece, Dr. Amy E. Davis (Mike Kelly) along with several nieces, nephews, and other great-nieces/great-nephews.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church (198 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, Shelby, NC, 28152) and Hospice Cleveland County Foundation (212 South Washington Street, Shelby, NC, 28150)
