Linda "Lynn" Kemerait Obituary

Linda “Lynn” Nolan Kemerait, 82, of Bostic died at her home Tuesday, March 7, 2023.  Lynn was the daughter of the late William L. Nolan and Marie Goske Nolan.  She was born on December 5, 1940 in Painesville, Ohio.  She married her high school sweetheart, Donald J. Kemerait on December 29, 1956, and started a family settling in Daytona Beach, Florida.

She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Central Florida with a bachelors degree and immediately started helping people through family and crisis counseling.  Her Masters came from Appalachian State in the form of magna cum laude after relocating to Rutherford County.  She finished her education obtaining an EDU from Virginia Tech University.

Lynn’s career always centered around people.  Her goal was to help them be their best.  Early in her career she worked at the House Next Door in Deland, Florida before moving to Rutherford County and becoming instrumental with the programs Peer Helpers Program and D.A.R.E.  She also spent several years working with elementary school students in Guilford County and finished her career at the Green Street Center.  After retiring she became the chief judge for the Golden Valley voting district.

She is survived by three sons; Brian Kemerait, Mark Kemerait, and Greg Kemerait (Kathie), a daughter; Lisa Kemerait (Mark), a sister; Marcia Monahan, grandchildren;Brian, Matthew, Kara,, Sasha, and Mercedes, and a long list of nieces, nephews, adopted family and friends.

She touched many lives in all ways.  Her light will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 6, 2023 at 11AM at The Golden Church of the Brethren located at 1758 Cane Creek Mountain Rd, Bostic, NC 28018.  A reception will follow at the Kemerait family residence.  

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Lynn’s name to the Donald J. Kemerait Memorial Scholarship: Established in 1992 by the family and friends of Donald J. Kemerait, who served as a professor from 1981 until his death in 1992. Preference is given to a senior studying in the Broyhill Undergraduate School of Management. Please send donations and make checks payable to:   Gardner-Webb University, PO Box 997, Boiling Springs NC 28017 in memory of Lynn Kemerait.
