Larry Patrick Hartley, 89, went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 14, 2025, at Hospice House in Forest City, NC, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born in Owosso, Michigan on February 18, 1936.  He was the son of the late Raymond Phillip Hartley and Jessie Murty Hartley.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and nine elder siblings.

Larry attended Saint Paul's Catholic School for his elementary and high school education.  Larry was devoted to his Catholic faith and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parrish in Forest City, NC.  At the age of 17, he proudly enlisted and served six years in the United States Marine Corps.

Larry’s professional career in manufacturing brought him to Forest City, NC as plant manager of Duall Industries. He later joined KCH Industries, where he worked until his retirement.

Larry was an accomplished athlete, having completed twenty-three marathons and several triathlons around the country. Among his proudest achievements were competing in the Boston Marathon four times, multiple Marine Corps Marathons, and the Hilton Head National Tinman Triathlon.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Susie Carver Hartley; daughters, Emily Hicks Cook (Ron), Deborah Hicks Michalove (Clint), Terry Porter (Dennis), and Sandy Hartley (Mike); grandchildren, Zachary Powers, Hannah Biggs Powers, Hannah Elizabeth Powers, Jennifer  Schenk, Angela Heuchan, Julie Branning, Adam Porter, Andrew Porter, Amber Davis, Ashton Porter; fifteen great grandchildren.

Larry’s memorial service will be held at 3 o'clock on Saturday, March 22nd at The Padgett and King Funeral Chapel with Deacon Andy Cilone officiating. . Military Honors to follow the service on the lawn of the chapel, after which the family will receive friends at the funeral home.
