Nancy Karen Honeycutt Bushong Hoyle, age 85, of Forest City, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home. Karen was born September 21, 1938, in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late Howard Clay Honeycutt and Edith Mathis Honeycutt, of Forest City. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School where she was the drum majorette for the band. Karen graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte where she focused on administrative skills. She worked for the Department of Juvenile Justice as the administrative assistant for the Director of the Western Region in Wilkesboro, NC and later as the administrative assistant for the 23rd Judicial District. She retired from the state after 30 years of service.
Karen was very active in her community in Wilkesboro where she helped organize a chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority which is part of an international charitable sorority. This organization’s mission is to provide cultural service and social enrichment by supporting local and national charities through volunteer contributions. She served as President as part of the charter board and members. She was a member of the North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church and later she became a member of Florence Baptist Church. Karen was also an avid bowler. She was a member of the local Wilkes County Bowling League where she was inducted into the 300 Club for those that have bowled perfect games.
Karen is survived by her husband, Clark Hoyle of Forest City, and her daughter Laura Bushong of Durham.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Eleven o’clock in The Padgett and King Chapel officiated by the Reverend Daniel Selman, Reverend Tonya Garrison, and Dr. Benjamin Stogner. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 10:45 prior to the service.
