Juanita Miller Obituary

Juanita Mayse Miller, age 90 of Forest City, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Fairhaven Home of Bostic.  Juanita was born on August 14, 1933, in Spindale, North Carolina and was a daughter of the late James Laxton Mayse and Mary Lucinda Towery Mayse. 

She was a graduate of Rutherfordton-Spindale High School and Limestone College. After graduating college, she went to work for Stonecutter as a secretary where she met her husband, Joseph Henry Miller, Jr., and they were married in 1958 and  remained married until his death in 2013.

Juanita later went to work at Northwestern Bank in Forest City as a teller and continued to work when the bank became a part of First Union and later Wachovia until her retirement.  Juanita was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Forest City and the Celebration/Love Circle Sunday School Class where she had many shared many close friends.  She and her husband Joe enjoyed many years participating in the local dance club as well as traveling. 

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Williamson, and Martha Barnett. 

Survivors include her son, Henry Miller of Forest City, her daughter, Melissa Miller Heeg of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, her sister-in-law, Anna Miller Hancock of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and her grandchildren, Kristen Miller Norwood and husband John of Ruffin, North Carolina, Chris Heeg and wife Theresa of York, South Carolina, Deborah Heeg Lubbert and husband Eric of Avon, Indiana, and Eric Heeg and wife Maria of North Chili, New York.  There are also two great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Forest City, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Garin Hill.  Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Harris, North Carolina.  The family will receive friends in the Family Fellowship Hall at First Baptist from 10 until 11 o’clock prior to the service. 

The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers, David, Sheila, and Tanner Herndon, Cindy Fields, and the staff at Fairhaven Home of Bostic.
