Joyce White Greene, age 88 of Forest City died Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Born November 8, 1933, in LaFayette, Georgia she was the daughter of the late Thomas Aaron Peppers and Kathleen Tabitha Chapman Peppers. She was a 1950 graduate of Tri-Community High School in Caroleen where she played Tenor Saxophone and Clarinet in the Tri-High Marching Band. Joyce was an accomplished musician having served as Minister of Music, organist, and pianist for numerous churches in Rutherford County for over 55 years and taught private piano lessons in her home. Over the years she held memberships in two churches, Caroleen Baptist Church and Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church, was a volunteer with the Rutherford Regional Medical Center, served on the Board of Directors of the Rutherford County Vocational Workshop, the Board of Directors of the Rutherford County Concert Association and also served as Director of the Church of the Exceptional of Caroleen. She was also a member of the Lucille Wall Music Club.
Joyce retired from the North Carolina Developmental Evaluation Center in Shelby with over 15 years of service.
One of Joyce’s greatest enjoyments was cooking for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, Pearlie Gates “P.G.” White, Jr. in 1997, and her second husband of 1 year, Marshall Greene in 2006.
Surviving are her daughter, Loretta White Luckadoo and husband, William of Forest City; her son, Reverend Terry White and wife, Elora of Rutherfordton; two brothers, Rondall Peppers of Caroleen and Gerald David Peppers of Shelby; a special sister-in-law, Josephine White of Forest City; three grandchildren, Teddy White and wife, Ginger, Carrie White Oliver and husband, Jay and Lauren Luckadoo Beard and husband, Brandon; six great-grandchildren, Noah Oliver, Peyton White, Anna Oliver, Caleb White, Abby Oliver and Jacob White.
A Service to Celebrate her Life will be held Sunday afternoon, November 28, 2021, at 3 o’clock at the Caroleen Baptist Church with the Reverend Andy Evans, her son, the Reverend Terry White, and the Reverend Jay Oliver officiating. The service of committal will follow in the Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Robert Carnell officiating.
Masks and Social Distancing is requested at the church.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 2:45 prior to the service at the Church.
