Johnny Lee Harris Obituary
Johnny Lee Harris, 82, of Bostic, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at Holly Springs Senior Citizens’ Home in Rutherfordton, North Carolina.
Born on April 12, 1943, in Forest City, North Carolina, Johnny was the beloved son of the late Ernest Alfred Harris and Annie Sisk Harris. Raised by a mother of extraordinary faith, Johnny grew into a man whose life was firmly rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to family. His final church home was Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Sunshine, North Carolina, and he raised his family according to the Word of God.
Johnny was a salesman extraordinaire, known throughout Rutherford County and beyond for his integrity, dedication, and unmatched work ethic. For many years, he worked as a salesman at C. Everett Smith Furniture Company in Forest City. During that time, he would often return home after a full day’s work, eat dinner, and then spend his evenings painting and wallpapering for others late into the night. His tireless determination eventually allowed him to focus his career primarily on automobile sales.
Over the years, Johnny served the community at Hunnicutt Ford and Beam Chevrolet in Forest City, had a brief tenure at Torrington Industries in Rutherfordton, and worked as a manager and salesman at Curtis Mathis in Spindale. He ultimately found his professional home at Universal Auto in Forest City, where he served as general manager until his retirement. Johnny earned deep respect from supervisors, colleagues, and customers alike. People sought him out wherever he worked, trusting his honesty and valuing his counsel. He modeled loyalty, diligence, and pride in one’s work, leaving a lasting example for his children and all who knew him.
Johnny’s personality drew people to him effortlessly. No one was ever a stranger. He loved meeting people, talking with them, and making each person feel accepted and valued. His sense of humor brightened rooms, and he intentionally focused on the positive, creating moments of joy and laughter wherever he went. His kindness was contagious; he would give whatever he had or do whatever he could to help anyone in need, whether friend or stranger.
A planner by nature, Johnny often reminded his children, “Fail to plan, plan to fail,” encouraging them always to be prepared. Outside of work, his greatest joy was tending to his lawn and landscaping. He spent countless hours working outdoors, striving for perfection and taking immense pride in maintaining and presenting his home. Johnny appreciated everything he had, both big and small, and his presence simply made people feel better.
Johnny leaves behind his devoted wife, Geraldine Waters Harris; his children, Vanessa Robbins and her husband, David; and Jason Harris and his wife, Greta; his grandchildren, Garrett Robbins and his wife, Sydney; Addison Harris-Trull and her husband, Hayden; Amelia Harris, and Blake Harris; and his great-grandchildren, Zeppelin and Lennox Robbins.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sisters, Pat H. Cooke and Genelle H. Adair; his brothers, Kenneth “Bud” Harris and Jack Harris; his nephews, Jonathan Cooke and Hal "Chip” Cooke II; and many beloved cousins.
The family will receive friends at Padgett and King Mortuary on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Padgett and King Chapel. A graveside service will be held afterward at Bostic Baptist Cemetery in Bostic, North Carolina.
