Johnny Bridges Obituary

Reverend Johnny Max Bridges, age 87 of Old US Highway 74, Bostic, died Thursday, September 19, 2019 at his residence.  Johnny was born August 29, 1932 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Walter M. and Wilma Bailey Bridges. 

Reverend Bridges was called to the Gospel Ministry in Concord Baptist Church and was a member of Long Branch Road Baptist Church.  He has served many congregations in both North and South Carolina over fifty years of ministry.  He retired from the pastorate of New Beginnings Baptist Church.  He also worked for many years for Forest City Paint and Supply Company. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

His brothers, Reverend A. C. Bridges and William C. "Bill" Bridges preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty Lou Bridges of the home, a son, Max Bridges and wife Wanda of Ellenboro, two daughters, Susan Guffey of Ellenboro, Wanda Bridges Overhulser of Bostic.  There are also 7 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday at Concord Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Ruppe and Reverend Wayne Toney officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Saturday evening at Padgett and King.
