Joan McBrayer Robbins, age 68 of Rutherfordton, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at her home. Joan was born in Rutherford County on December 6, 1952 and was the daughter of the late Robert B. McBrayer and Earleen Roberson McBrayer. She grew up in Forest City where she was baptized in the First Baptist Church and was a member in her youth. She was a graduate of East Rutherford High School, and she received her degree in French and Education from Appalachian State University. Joan was retired from Chase High School where she taught French, English and was a girls coach. She was currently a member of Florence Baptist Church and was active in her Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Robbins in 2007 and her brother, Doug McBrayer.
Joan was a faithful wife, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed being a part of her sorority and the wonderful friends she had there. Joan was also close with many of her college friends which she loved to travel with. Her friendships were close and meaningful to her, and she cherished every minute of time the spent together.
Survivors include her sons, Jared Robbins and wife Christine of Rutherfordton, Gabriel Robbins and wife Stacey of Kenmore, Washington, her two grandchildren, Sydney and Sylvia Robbins as well as a nephew, Ken McBrayer of Louisville, KY, and nieces, Beth McBrayer Caveness of Wilmington, NC and Pam McBrayer Bailey of Forest, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock on Saturday, July 10, 2021 in the Florence Baptist Church with Reverend Tonya Garrison and Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock on Friday evening at Padgett and King Mortuary.
The family will be at the Robbins home on Hopper Road.
