Joan Ann Rizzo, age 80 of Ellenboro died Wednesday, February 25, 2026.  She was born on July 30, 1945, in Springfield Gardens, New York and was a daughter of the late Vincent Henry Haverkamp and Edna Ann Smith Haverkamp. 

Joan worked as an Administrative Assistant for Shell Oil Company where she retired after 35 years’ service.  She also worked as a secretary for a drug company. She was a former resident of The Villages in Florida where she was active in church work. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed golfing.  She and her husband moved to North Carolina two years ago to be closer to family.  Joan was also a Roman Catholic.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Edward Rizzo, Sr. of Ellenboro, her son, Edward Rizzo, Jr., and wife Lillian, her daughters, Michele Funderburk and husband Bill, and Denise Capaldo and husband Robert, her sister, Diane Skillings and husband Bill as well as 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026, in The Padgett and King Chapel with Deacon Andy Cilone officiating.  Visitation will follow the service in the chapel.
